healthdirect offers all Australians free access to health advice and information over the phone, 24 hours a day on 1800 022 222. Callers will talk directly to a Registered Nurse who can provide information about health issues to help you manage your condition.
healthdirect's Carlo Leonessa said, “In the past 12 months the healthdirect helpline has assisted 115,000 South Australians to decide what was the best course of action for themselves or a loved one. Generally we find that the majority of those calls occur in the after-hours period when their regular GP is not available and they need health advice.” Common reasons for calling healthdirect include vomiting and diarrhoea in a child, coughs and colds in a child, abdominal pain and questions relating to medication.
