Ai-Lene Chan


Biography / Background

Dr Ai-Lene Chan joined our practice in 2010 after moving to Adelaide from her hometown of Melbourne.
She is of Malaysian - Chinese heritage, but unfortunately has lost her native tongue.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (University of Adelaide)
Certificate of Community Development (Jamkhed India)
Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
Accredited for Insertion of Implanon contraceptive
Obstetric Shared Care Accreditation

Experience

Ai-Lene completed her medical degree at the University of Adelaide, then went on to work in Paediatrics, Aged Care, Rehabilitation Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Medicine and General Surgery at Modbury Hospital and The Alfred Hospital (Melbourne). She has worked in rural communities in Jervis Bay (NSW), Shepparton and Mount Beauty (Victoria).

Ai-Lene recently completed a term at the Royal Women's Hospital in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
She was the supervisor for the Sexual Health clinic at her medical practice in Melbourne.

During her studies, Ai-Lene has spent time in Jamkhed, India and Dharan, Nepal where she developed a passion for community welfare. She has since worked with Aboriginal Community Health Services in NSW, Victoria, and South Australia. Through these experiences she developed a deeper understanding of the disparities in health and opportunity for minority cultural, socio-economic and ethnic groups within Australia. Ai-Lene continues to be a passionate advocate for fair and equitable access to health care.

Teaching and Research Interests

Ai-Lene has a special interest in Sexual Health, Aboriginal Health and Public Health.
